The Continuing Saga of Massage Continuing Education

The Continuing Saga of Massage Continuing Education

I know it may begin sounding like a rant, but I really want to do something about the current mindset of those who are looking for  massage continuing education credits/units. I recently went to teach a two day course in Cranial sacral therapy at a massage school and realized that this might be my last class in this format. Its like trying to teach someone Spanish in two days. It just doesn’t make a lot of sense. I again reiterate that the potential student of Rolfing Cranial sacral therapy or any discipline for that matter should first explore the potential field of study with a well made dvd course for half the price of a normal four day class. And use the DVD series for at least 6 months to determine whether they are excited and would like to continue their journey with that particular discipline. It has a two fold benefit. First the student of massage will gain the benefit of procuring their  a large segment of the necessary massage continuing education credits for the state requirements. Secondly, the will have a sense of excitement to truly delve into the selected discipline and gain a level of competency. It wasn’t to long ago that apprenticeships lasted 7 years before the apprentice went out on their own as “journeymen”. Now the massage industry promotes two days as being recognizable (a printed piece of diploma paper) competent. Ouch!
