Getting a Big Belly? Might Be Your Sleep Patterns
Getting Fat? Sleep More!
Recently, there have been a few scientific studies that demonstrate that folks who are under 40, and who sleep five hours or less a night will grow more abdominal fat than the rest of us and begin to resemble “Fat Bastard” in the movie the “Spy who Shagged Me”. But, if you need more than 8, or you are just lazy, you will also grow fatter, but not as much as the less than five hour a night sleepers. Those who slept less than five were likely to gain weight almost 2.5 times those who got six or seven hours! Here is the crazy part, if you exercised, had normal caloric intake and smoked or not smoked you will still gain more weight than the other groups if you slept five or less hours a night. There was also a correlation to higher rates of heart disease and diabetes among those (beyond my imagination) who can survive on 5 or less hours of sleep a day.
So, don’t drink caffeine late at night, and if you get 5 or less hours of sleep every night and you aren’t over weight, or you don’t care one way or another, then just delete this article as being another piece of meaningless trivia. I don’t really care because I am over 40 and I get about 7 to 7.5 a night.
