The Practice of Stillness
I know its a bold statement, but I believe all true art springs forth from Stillness, the field which Rumi spoke of when he said, “Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a field. I will meet you there.” It is the field where motion is held in swirls of stillness, like the eddy of a raging spring river. It is from this place, which all modalities of healing work, emerges from. It is in the silence that we hold, where the Divine speaks to us of its creation and we are given the privilege to witness It, heal itself! This is not the stillpoint that we refer to in craniosacral therapy where primary respirations pauses and tunes itself, whether on its own or through technique we deem valuable in a session. No, this is the Stillness with a capital S, where we have moved through a portal together with our patients, to that field of which Rumi has spoken so eloquently to us. This is the Silence of the Breath of Life witnessing its own creation and then reflecting into our hands and the field that they hold, its needs, not ours.
As many have observed, there is a Supreme Intelligence at work in the fluids and tissues which deeply understands and is capable of making powerful decisions to bring about homeostasis within its own liquid crystalline matrix. When we have the privilege to have held the space for that unfoldment, we are blessed, and our lives become lighter with the knowledge that we too are woven from that same web.
