Craniosacral Therapy’s “Direction of Tide” technique
There is a magical technique in craniosacral therapy that I use from time to time to create change in conditions that are brought to my massage table. It is called a “direction of tide” and its purpose to to open inertial fulcrums and to dissipate energy that is stuck. In alternative forms of therapy there are many “techniques” that create inherent changes. This form of intention works beautifully to deal with many challenges like TMJ, migraine headaches, neck pain, numbness and tingling, carpal tunnel and a host of other complaints. We use it when we want to accomplish something by directing the potency or juice to towards a fixation in the system. And the ensuing feelings of warmth and softening often signal a successful technique. The system that we have palpated has led us to this decision. Its a dance with the “Breath of Life in a three dimensional holographic field. We direct the potency oftentimes through the middle of our palm as we electrify the field of potency within the patient’s system and aim it towards the fixated area of dysfunction. One of the coolest feelings a practitioner of cranial sacral therapy can experience is within the receiving hand, or the non directing hand. This receiving hand will almost immediately sense the direction of the tide as both hands communicate to each other. Its an infusion within the entire fluid field between the two hands. You elevate the energy of the entire area as it bears on a particular fulcrum. When the body responds and softens, widens, or releases pent up energy as heat the seemingly abstract concept of intention proves to be one of the most powerful by subtle of tools within the “toolbox” of a craniosacral therapist, especially when the patient reports a lessening of the condition or a complete change from dysfunction to one of health and wellness.
