Plantar Fasciitis-continued
So, what has caused this inflammation to begin with? Is it an over use injury? Well, yes, one could say that but who cares what caused the painful injury. I have seen it in flat as well as high arches. But, it does seem more prevalent in the less flexible higher arch anatomy. It really doesn’t matter what caused it, because I have seen plantar fasciitis in every walk of life (pun intended). So please laugh, studies have shown laughter is good for you health. Might even help plantar fasciitis! Let me give you one obvious example of probably cause. I am working on a doctor who is a hospitalist. He spend 12 hours a day, seven days a week or about 84 hours cruising the floors at one of our Virginia hospitals. You think the bottom of his feet might be sore? It is one of the worst cases I have seen and he has been suffering for over a year, but after one session he was felt a vast amount of relief for 3 days, So, we are on the right track.
“How many sessions will it take” is the question I most often get when someone who is suffering from plantar fasciitis calls me. I answer,” one foot or two”. I always feel like I am a waiter in a Chinese restaurant. The most sessions I have had to perform was 15 on a gentlemen who is an optician who stands on his fee on hard floors all day at least 5 days a week. He needs a tune up every 4-6 months. It is extremely cost effective. If the Insurance companies got off their gluteals and hip rotators they would save tons of money if they embraced alternative therapies and quit trying to screw everyone who legitimately needs help. They would actually save money. Sorry, stepping down off my bully pulpit, just one moment. So, what’s the secret? Sure the plantar aspect of the foot hurts. Oftentimes, it hurts into the calcaneus. But, in my opinion its all the muscles above the retinaculum…ALL of them! At least that is what I have found in my practice. I suggest you learn the second session as taught by Ida Rolf, if you do your patients’s plantar fasciitis will be a historical event. Email me if you need more information on how to deal with Plantar Fasciitis.
